10 WAYS TO CELEBRATE EASTER WHILE SELF-ISOLATING AND/OR SOCIAL DISTANCING

As something who has missed their fair share of holidays and family occasions I understand that being away from your family and friends can be frustrating. The holidays' are often stressful even without the added complication of social distancing and being unable to spend time with your friends and family.

I've made it my mission to get creative and make your holiday a little bit brighter and more exciting.

DISCLAIMER: Please keep in mind that the current global situation is always changing and that you should check with your local health authorities and government before going out or ordering online. (This list involves a few basic crafting, food and baking ideas which you might not have on hand.)

CRAFTS CRAFTS CRAFTS

There are so many fantastic crafts that you can do to embrace the holiday spirit. A lot of crafts can be made from objects that you already have around the house. Use those empty toiler paper rolls and turn them into bunny rabbits! Empty egg cartons can be decorated and turned into cute outfits for your Easter eggs. Print out a black and white line sketch and get colouring! If you need a bit more inspiration, Pinterest is a great place to find affordable crafts. I've made a list on my page for you guys.

HIDING EGGS FOR YOUR PETS, FAMILY MEMBERS AND/OR YOURSELF

This is probably one of my favourite items from my list!

HIDING EGGS FOR YOUR PETS - Can't see your family because of social distancing or self-isolation? Really want to do something with the Easter eggs in your closet? Hide eggs filled with pet treats around your household and take them on an adventure!

If you do plan to do this, MAKE SURE that you supervise carefully and never leave your pet alone with the eggs. Also, make sure you have eggs that are safe and won't be chewed or accidentally ingested. (If this is the case, you can always just hide the treats and supervise.)

ALSO DON'T GIVE YOUR DOG OR CAT CHOCOLATE OR CANDY OR HUMAN FOOD. (Unless it's something that's already safe and that you've thoroughly researched and checked with your veterinarian.)

TAKE CARE OF YOUR FUR BABIES.

HIDING EGGS FOR FAMILY MEMBERS WHO YOU MIGHT NOT GET TO SEE ON EASTER - If you live at home with your family and are taking all the necessary precautions of your movement and health officials, this one probably isn't for you. If you aren't able to be with your family members, try hiding eggs in your location and having your kid/partner/etc locate them through   a video call. It doesn't even have to be eggs! You can use sticky notes or anything else. Your family member will get a candy or treat on their end, while needing to use their super sleuthing to find the clues.

HIDING EGGS FOR YOURSELF - This one is a bit of a long game. Comment below with your tips.

SKYPE/VIDEO CALL/PHONE CALL

I briefly touched on this topic in the previous section. If you're missing your friends and family during the holiday season give them a call or video call them.

HOLIDAY MEAL

Just because you aren't celebrating together doesn't mean you can enjoy a holiday meal. Next time you do your essential shopping grab small servings of your favourite holiday dishes and ingredients. (Turkeys, hams and chickens can be super tiny.) I would recommend not leaving this task until the last minute and being consciousness to only buy what you need. If you happen to coordinate with your family and friends maybe you can even have a video call dinner.

BAKING

You don't have to limit this one just to the holidays, baking is a great way to move your body and make a tasty treat. Throw on some music, find a recipe and rummage your cupboards for ingredients and away you go.

Not sure what recipe? Pinterest and the internet have some great ideas. It's only a Google search away.

Missing ingredients? A. Check online for product alternatives. B. Order through Amazon or another online website. C. Call your local grocery store before you go for your next shop and make sure they have what you need. D. Pick a slightly simpler recipe.

PAINTING AND DECORATING EGGS

Decorating eggs for Easter isn't just for kids. Embrace your inner Egg-Gogh and get cracking. (I'm sorry, I'm sorry.) You don't even need to purchase Easter egg dye! It can be home! All you need to do is find some eggs, boil until hard and follow three simple steps.

HOW TO DYE EGGS IN THREE SIMPLE STEPS:

Ingredients:

Glass Bowl (Won't get stained.)
Utensil or kitchen tool to dip eggs (Glass or metal is preferable to avoid staining.)
Eggs
Vinegar
Water
Food Colouring

Instructions for ONE colour.

STEP 1:

Mix 1 teaspoon of vinegar with 1/4 teaspoon of food colouring to create the dye.

STEP 2:

Combine the dye with 3/4 cup of water.

STEP 3:

Take you hardboiled eggs and let soak in dye until it reaches the desire colour. Let dry before dipping in another colour. Repeat process with other eggs.

PLANT FLOWERS

Make it your best day ever with your own garden. If you live in a place where it's warm out or even if you have some spare pots in your apartment, purchasing a pack of seeds and plants your own garden is a great activity that can be down while social distancing. You can even plant your seeds in eggs cartons after you've decorated your Easter eggs. All you'll need is egg cartons, water, seeds, paper towel and soil. (You might not even need the soil, depending on what you're growing.)

DECORATE YOUR HOME WITH EASTER CRAFTS

Have some spare paper and scissors lying around? Make Easter 'snowflakes' and decorate your home with crafts. You can decorate your paper with whatever you have on hand (markers, pencils, paint, stickers, etc) or leave them blank and cut out Easter shapes!

WATCH YOUR FAVOURITE SPRING AND EASTER MOVIES

Get into the holiday mood with spring and Easter movies! I've made a quick list of a few movies that you might want to watch!

1. Leap Year (2010)
2. Peter Rabbit (2018)
3. Hop (2011)
4. Rise of the Guardians (2014)
5. It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown (1974)

BLANKET FORT

It's your holiday and you can relax if you want to! Who says that you need to do anything fancy? Turn yourself into a burrito, grab some snacks, a movie and enjoy your holiday.

I hope you enjoyed this blog post. Comment below and let me know your favourite way to celebrate the holidays!
